As an employee, you are a fairly new employee at your job. You
have met the boss on two occasions; your interview and one time
when he or she demanded that you finish a client's report. Your
boss's unapproachable nature makes you feel uneasy if not a bit
fearful.
As the boss, you don't have a clue that your workers are
intimidated by you. You are basically just concerned that they
do their jobs well and produce profit for the company. Your
impression of your co-workers is that if they don't ...

There was a CEO of a large company who had an interesting object
on his desk. Over the course of many years the object had been
the topic of numerous conversations by most employees and
visitors who found themselves in his office. When I heard the
story about the CEO and the strange object, I knew it had to be
the topic of an article, because of how moved I was by the
message.
The object on his desk was a hand-carved automobile made from

What is the last leadership opportunity that you passed up?
When I posed this question to a group of employees who had been
singled out for their leadership potential:
50% named the title/position they failed to apply for or
had not been offered.
10% said they hadn't been offered an internal position
but had passed up a leadership position in an outside
organization or a chance to lead their extracurricular sports.
40% said that they hadn't been offered any leadership
position and therefore ...

"But I didn't mean to hurt him!" Those of us who are parents
have heard our children use these words all too often in the
midst of rousing horseplay. Inevitably we respond with something
like, "Of course you didn't, but you still need to say you're
sorry. With our children, we try to convey the difference
between what we intend and the resultant impact of our actions.
We explain that even when we don't plan to harm others,
sometimes they end up getting hurt by what we do. Unfortunately,
this is ...

Many of us have been there ' every day hundreds of people walk into an intimidating office for their first day at work whilst desperately trying to mop the sweat oozing from their stressed forehead without looking creepy.
Starting a new job is difficult, trying and terrifying for people who don't like change and disorder. That's why it's all important that bosses try to make new starters feel as comfortable as possible. A calm and collected staff member will work far better than ...

You have a detailed business plan, which showed the overall

contained the basis of the procedures that will help you stay
focussed while the company grows. Let's examine some of these
processes that you will use to give your business the focus it
needs to grow and succeed.
1. A marketing plan. If sales are a ...

Hiring someone new to work in your business is one of the most
critical decisions a business owner makes, although it is not
always given the justice it deserves. If a position is vacant,
or additional staff is needed, recruitment decisions are often
driven by the pressure to get someone in quickly, rather than
waiting for the best person to fill the job. Lack of proper and
systematic recruitment process can also result in a high cost to
the business.
The direct and indirect costs of this ...

What's the difference between running your own home-based
business and freelancing? (tick, tick, tick ...) Give up? Me
too. If you want to work for yourself from home and have a
special talent or skill that you think others would be prepared
to pay for on an hourly or per-project basis, why not stop
thinking in terms of the traditional "home business" paradigm
and start thinking in terms of freelancing instead?
WHAT IS A FREELANCER?
Quite simply, a freelancer is an independent contractor ...
